A FORMER Bishop Wordsworth pupil has found world-wide fame on a charity single with the all-male cappella group Out of the Blue.

Aiden Hampton, who has just finished his final year at Oxford University, joined the musical group, which was made famous by Britain’s Got Talent in 2011.

His mother Susan Hampton told the Journal he beat more than 100 other hopefuls just to make it onto the band.

She said: “He had been doing more traditional music before joining the group but decided that for his final year he wanted to do something different.

“About 120 people tried out for the group and he had to go through three rounds of auditions before he was selected.”

The group, which is made up entirely of students from Oxford and Oxford Brooks, are famous for their classical remakes of famous songs.

Now their latest single, a cover of the Shakira song Hip’s Don’t Lie, has managed over 3.5 million views on YouTube.

The hit, which went viral after being re-tweeted by the Columbian singer, is a charity single to raise money for the Helen and Douglas House, a hospice for children and young adults in Oxford.

Shakira said on Facebook: “The Oxford choir – Out of the Blue is awesome! And the fact that they are doing this for charity makes it all the more special...soo well done!!”

In the video the band performs a light-hearted version of the song, which sees the group members shake their hips while performing their own unique version of the lyrics.

Fame, however, didn’t come without hard work. In addition to his tough schedule of rehearsing for the group, Aiden has had to also juggle his final year exams at university.

Mrs Hampton said: “It is quite rare for people to join the band while in their final year of university because of the demand of exams. But despite of this he has still managed to graduate with a first class degree, which came as surprise to all of us.”
