Motorcyclist clocked at 147mph

A MOTORCYCLIST has been disqualified from driving and fined after being clocked at 147mph.

Paul Spinks, 36, of Vincent Drive, Andover, was found guilty of riding his motorbike at 147mph in a 60mph limit area on the A30 at Thorneydown.

Officers were carrying out speed checks in the area at about 3pm on June 1 last year.

Spinks was disqualified from driving for 100 days and issued with a £300 fine at Salisbury Magistrates Court on July 31.

PC Will Ayres of Salisbury Police said: “There is no excuse for driving in this manner and at such speed. People who disregard the speed limits risk not only criminal records, disqualification and fines but the very real danger of causing fatal or serious injury to other road users.”

As a member of our Village 'Speed Watch' Team I go out monitoring peoples speed in a 30mph area. My first time response was quite an eye opener! Some motorist will even stop and challenge you that you booked them doing some 40+ mph. Many in fact pass you at 45 +! Two weeks ago a young and very silly young man did as Wheely at 42 mph! When I approached him and asked him what he though he was doing, he just laughed. I told him I would be making a report on him and he said "What will that achieve"! With that attitude and the courts treatment of this one, he may have a point!
