STONE-CARVING and stained glass window making were just some of the workshops on offer at Salisbury’s first Contemporary Craft and Heritage Fayre.

The event, in Cathedral Close, saw more than 80 top craftsmen and designers showcase their work from jewellers and potters to painters and silversmiths.

People also got the chance to learn about ancient skills and local heritage through practical workshops, interactive demonstrations and talks run by heritage experts, such as the cathedral’s stonemasons.

Organisers Salisbury Rotary Club and Salisbury Chamber of Commerce welcomed about 2,500 visitors, with lots returning for the second day, and the event has raised more than £15,000 for local charities.

One of the organisers, David Clayton, said: “Feedback from the heritage exhibitors, the craft makers and the visiting public has been hugely positive, quite overwhelmingly so actually. The event has already been heralded a success and a date has been set for next year.”
