SALISBURY’S annual Charter Fair will return to the city from Sunday (October 19) to Wednesday (October 22).

This year the funfair will officially open on Sunday evening at 7pm, instead of on Monday, as a celebration of 125 years of the Showmen’s Guild Western Section.

It will then continue daily from 11am until late. The Mayor of Salisbury, Councillor Jo Broom, who will open the fair alongside fellow Salisbury city councillors, said: “The fair is an eagerly anticipated family tradition for many.”

The fair involves traditional and modern rides, stalls and attractions, and this year’s new attractions are Stargate and Crazy Cage.

In 1227 King Henry III granted a charter to the Bishop of Salisbury to hold a fair on the third Monday in October, and the fair is still held every year.

The fair is offering 50p off vouchers to people for all the rides, which can be used all day. Vouchers are available from Salisbury Information Centre.
