Local Hero Awards 2014
BETHAN Whitworth won the Medical Person category after helping a man recover from a serious accident six years ago.
Dr Whitworth has also completed a number of charity events over the years but it was her work at St Ann Street Surgery that won her the award.
She said: “The family that nominated me have been a true inspiration and have shown what true grit and determination is.
“It is very special to be nominated because Andy, who had the accident, has been just amazing. He suffered a significant injury and has become a snow and water skier, he is paraplegic and has been fantastic.
“But this isn’t just me, we have five partners in the practice and we have fantastic nursing staff and we all work together to look after 8,000 people.”
Sheila Trollope, whose son was injured in the accident, also paid tribute to Dr Whitworth for going above and beyond the call of duty.
She said: “Going for a consultation with her or meeting her in any capacity is just like meeting a best friend.
“She is totally selfless. I think she certainly deserves this award. She is unique.”
