IT’S countdown time to a musical event never seen before in Salisbury.

The final rehearsals for one of the productions for Celebrate Voice have been taking place in a church hall before moving to its launch location – The Medieval Hall in the Cathedral Close – on Monday.

Die Fledermause will begin the seven-day singing celebration, which will bring a host of leading singers to the venue during the week.

Tuesday provides a one-off chance to see Dame Josephine Barstow in conversation with BBC Radio’s James Jolly, immediately followed by a recital by Rachel Nicholls ahead of her debut as Eva in Die Meistersinger at English National Opera.

Folk singer Sam Lee and Friends performs on Wednesday whilst the public have a chance to participate flash mob style in the market square at 1pm.

Other nights include Natalie Williams on Friday, October 31 and Dominic Harlan’s sparkling interactive show on Saturday, November 1.

The event has been the inspiration and creation of Salisbury Opera singer Lynsey Docherty, who said: “I know we have something here that is really special and my hope is that as many people as possible get to see at least one of the shows, plus of course take part in Wednesday’s Sing City.”
