DISADVANTAGED young people in Wiltshire are set to benefit from a £9,948 lottery grant to help them take part in environmental projects.
Youth Action Wiltshire (YAW) has won the award to run an Environmental Credits project for 50 young people for a year.
The project will target young people aged 14 to 18 who do not currently engage in environmental issues.
They will learn about coppicing, hedge laying, maintaining woodlands, how to restore streams, ponds and rivers, how to create new habitats for wildlife and insects and improve local biodiversity during weekly sessions.
YAW youth programmes manager Steve Crawley said: “Young people in a rural county can feel isolated and lack opportunities to mix and develop skills for a number of reasons including caring responsibilities, learning issues or a lack of access.
“Using environmental social action as a tool we will positively inspire these young people, helping them to develop a sense of worth and identity.”
