THE Earl of Pembroke has officially launched the start of the sign-up period for Walk for Wards.

The annual fundraiser is in aid of Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal and takes place around the beautiful Wilton Estate on June 21.

Walkers can choose between the family-friendly 3km or the more challenging 10km route.

Lord Pembroke, who is the president of the Stars Appeal and opens the grounds of his ancestral home for the event, said: “Our local hospital does such a great job and the work of the Stars Appeal makes an enormous difference to people in every ward and department.

“Last year’s walkers pledged a record-breaking £80,000. Come and join this year’s walk to raise money for the Breast Cancer Unit Campaign or the hospital ward or department closest to your heart.”

The event is free to enter and includes a free lunch and free admission to the Wilton House grounds and the adventure playground afterwards.

All participants must raise a minimum £15 sponsorship.

The campaign, backed by the Journal, seeks to raise £750,000 for a dedicated breast care unit. Last week, the appeal reached £400,000.
