HOMELESSNESS charity Alabaré is urging people to dig out their sleeping bags and spend the night on the floor of the Cathedral’s cloisters.

The charity’s sponsored sleep out at Salisbury Cathedral takes place on March 13 and aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness, as well as raising funds for the Salisbury Drop In Centre at Alabaré Place.

A spokesman for the Salisbury charity said: “This year will be particularly special thanks to the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta celebrations and exhibition at the cathedral. “Sleepers will be able to say that they slept close to the ‘finest preserved of the four surviving original 1215 documents’ in this most significant of years.”

Already signed up to take part are Salisbury MP John Glen and a number of young people from local schools and youth groups. To book your place visit alabare.co.uk or call Heather Hitchins on 01722 322882.

The drop-in centre provides support to homeless and vulnerable adults by offering hot food and drink, washing and laundry facilities, clothing and sleeping bags, and advice and guidance on a range of issues.
