STONEHENGE has been named as one of 28 winners in the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards.

Considered as one of the top European prizes in the heritage field, 263 applications were submitted by organisations and individuals from 29 countries.

The winners are chosen for outstanding achievements in conservation, research, dedicated service to heritage and education and training.

The European Heritage Awards Ceremony will take place on June 11 at the Oslo City Hall and will be co-hosted by Fabian Stang, Mayor of Oslo, Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for culture, and Plácido Domingo, the opera singer and president of Europa Nostra.

Stonehenge was praised for the building the visitor centre discreetly out of view of the stones.
