THE Kathaklai Indian Dance Company held a workshop at Whiteparish All Saints School before performing a show for families and the community.

Musicians from the group, which is on a tour of the UK, spent time teaching Year 3 and 4 children about the signs which formed an ancient language along with musical drumming rhythms.

Headteacher Kate Heathcote said: “Kathakali is the all male classical dance drama of Kerala, which originated in the temples in the 17th century to bring the Hindu epic stories to the local people through story-telling.

“The company of world-class artists from South India including actors, drummers, singers and make-up artists, showed us the rich heritage created in Kerala."

Year 3 and 4 teacher Felicity Thick added: "The evening show was spectacular and took place in the Memorial Hall with a large group of performers telling the tale of Snow White through music and sign language."
