SEVEN members from the Princes Trust youth charity have helped create a community garden at a farm in Whiteparish.

The four-week project, which also involved raising funds and donations for the garden, involved building a mud kitchen, a children’s den, seating area and a compost toilet at Brickworth Farm.

Some of the materials used came from pallets left over from when the group helped to deploy the Baron statues around Salisbury with Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service and the charity SERVE ON.

The project was completed on behalf of social enterprise, The Pantry Partnership.

Fiona Ollerhead of The Pantry Partnership said: “We are delighted to be having The Learning Curves Princes Trust Team working with us on our community project which is to create a special and tranquil place for people to come and enjoy, see fresh fruit and vegetables being grown and have the opportunity to pick them and cook them up into delicious, nutritious meals."

Team member James Lowe said he had achieved a lot through the project and had also gained two work experience placements as a result from a company which shares the same site at the farm and the gardener.

Gemma Snell, the team leader, said: “This team has worked incredibly hard to complete this project, raising £464.86 from bag packing at Tesco, which has also helped out with donations on a weekly basis.

"It’s so great to see the community members and companies coming together to better our local community. The team members have gained not only the project, but built confidence, work ethic, self-esteem and a desire to achieve their own personal goals.”

The Learning Curve Princes Trust Team programme is a 12-week self-development course for 16-25 year olds in Salisbury and Trowbridge.

The next course starts on September 21.
