SALISBURY Hospice nurses raised a whopping £2,600 for the charity after serving up a treat at a fundraising tea party.

The event was hosted by Lisa and Brian Macmillan at their home, the Manor House in Winterbourne Dauntsey.

Visitors enjoyed beautiful weather, the garden surroundings and homemade cakes made by the nurses, staff and hospice volunteers.

One of the organisers, Hospice staff Nurse Jeannie Grant, said: “The staff are passionate advocates for the patient and their carers recognising and celebrating the individual spirit of all they meet. It is an honour and privilege to work in such a special place and we are thrilled by the support we received at the tea party”.

Salisbury Hospice was founded to give the best possible care to people approaching the end of their lives. Maintaining this level of high-quality service costs around £2.4 million a year and the figure rises every year.

Last year Salisbury Hospice Charity raised £1.1 million locally to top up the NHS funding. But the charity says this is not enough. Recent cuts to NHS funding have resulted in the recent announcement that the hospice will have to make some reductions to its services.

The Hospice urgently needs the help of our local community to close the gap of more than £1 million, or risk further cuts to the services it provides.
