A WOMAN sustained "nasty wounds" after being chased and attacked by two dogs when she was out on her morning run.

The 59-year-old woman from Salisbury was running in the large green near the river, between the Five Rivers Leisure Centre and Fisherton Farm Allotments, and the incident happened between 8.35am and 8.45am on Thursday.

She saw a large dog standing in the path ahead of her and as she approached it she saw the owner with a second dog near to her.

Both dogs were said to be standing alert and looking at the woman.

As she ran past the dogs they started to chase after her and began biting and clawing at her rear and the back of her legs.

The victim, scared and alarmed, stood still with her hands in the air and shouted for help. And the owner of the dogs called them over and they ran off.

The victim ran home towards the path alongside Fisherton Farm Allotments.

When she returned home, she and her husband drove to the leisure centre area to try and locate the dogs and owner but there was no trace of them.

The owner of the dogs is described as a white female, in her 40s, about 5ft6 inches tall and of slim build. She had straight, shoulder length, thin mousey brown hair and was wearing an anorak.

The victim is unsure of the breed of the dogs but has described them as black or dark grey in colour, of big build and approximately one metre tall. They had short hair and wide faces.

PCSO Susan Greenway said: “This was a very frightening experience for the victim who was out on her usual morning run. She sustained nasty wounds to her back legs as a result of the incident and attended the doctors where she had her wounds dressed and was prescribed penicillin.

“The victim does not believe there was anyone else in the area at the time of the incident who may have witnessed the attack and unfortunately, despite bravely returning to the area with her husband shortly after the incident, the dogs and their owner had left the scene.

“The owner of the dogs did not offer any apology and did not show any remorse for what happened.

“We would like to stress the importance of keeping your dogs on leads when out and about, to avoid incidents like this taking place.

“We would also like to urge walkers and joggers to be vigilant when out and about – please be alert and report any incidents to Wiltshire Police on 101.”

Anyone with information should call PCSO Greenway on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
