THE council is to take action over a notorious accident blackspot in Salisbury, with work set to begin within weeks.
Frequent accidents have been reported in the Journal over the past year at the Salisbury Tunnel Junction railway bridge on London Road, just after St Mark’s roundabout.
Work is set to start on September 13 to re-texture the road, which Wiltshire Council hope will improve skid resistance. They also say more substantial work will be carried out later in the year.
The problems occur on the small kink in the road, with cars losing control and spinning either down the bank or into the hedge on the allotment side.
One nearby resident told the Journal that she had recorded as many as 20 minor incidents on the road in the past month. The latest was on Monday, when a car lost control on the bend and ended up in the hedge.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, but the car involved suffered a damaged tyre.
Cllr Bill Moss said he hopes the work “will solve the problem” but if problems persist then the council will look into more drastic work.
Campaigners have previously asked for better signage and reduced speed on the road.
