THE council is warning of long queues at the Salisbury dump ahead of the busy bank holiday weekend. The Household Recycling Centres (HRC) across the county are now shut two days a week and operate on reduced hours.
Despite the anticipated congestion Wiltshire Council will not be extending opening hours which are currently 10am to 4pm. The centre in Salisbury is shut on Thursday and Friday while Amesbury is closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
The council claim most queues build up before 10am and people are advised not to turn up prior to opening in order to prevent queues.
Toby Sturgis, cabinet member for waste, said: “The Bank Holiday weekend has always been a particularly busy time to visit the HRCs, so we would encourage people to plan ahead and be aware that the sites are likely to be particularly busy throughout this weekend.”
