A DRINK driving joyrider smashed into a bridge in Wilton on Monday after driving the wrong way up a one-way street.

The 26-year-old man drove a silver Seat Ibiza along the A36, up North Street, before crashing into a stone bridge and a parked Toyota Rav4.

The vehicle was then abandoned several minutes later in Wishford Road, Wilton.

He was arrested after the incident, which took place at 12.40am on Monday, on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and property damage, driving a vehicle dangerously and whilst unfit through drink, failing to stop at the scene, possession of class A drugs, and using a vehicle without third party insurance.

He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police want hear from anyone who saw the incident, and in particular when the driver got out of the car for a short time before then continuing to drive.
