A MAN from Salisbury has died after a small fishing boat capsized off the Irish coast last night.

The 73-year-old was one of ten people to be rescued by coastguards from the sea near to the Saltee Islands.

It is believed he was visiting his extended family in eastern Ireland for the weekend and were spending the day fishing.

The Irish Times reported that the vessel overturned in choppy water after a breaking wave broke the windows of the wheelhouse and water flooded the boat.

The group, aged from their teens to early 70s, clung to the capsized vessel for around five hours before the alarm was raised at around 11.30pm.

They were spotted by a passing passenger ferry.

The Salisbury-man, who has yet to be named, was transferred by helicopter to University Hospital in Waterford, where he was later pronounced dead.
