COMMUNITY spirit was in full flow at a Zumbathon in Downton.

Hannah Billen, of Zumba Fitness with Hannah, hosted the fundraising event on Saturday at Downton Memorial Hall with the help of guest instructors Annie Scadden and Susie Major from Zumba Salisbury.

The two-hour non-stop Zumbathon raised £416 for the Stars Appeal Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and was attended by more than 20 people.

It was inspired by Tara and Sue Brooks who attend zumba classes and approached Hannah to see if an event could be held to help raise money for the charity.

Hannah Billen says there was plenty of community spirit shown during the "fantastic event" and said: "It was a really great success.

"It was a small way of giving something back and showing our appreciation and support [for the Stars Appeal]."

The event exceeded her expectations by doubling the fundraising target they had in mind. Hannah added: "It was an overwhelming experience and I am grateful for the support. There was real community spirit.

"It was twice as much of a success than I ever dreamt it could be and has given me the inspiration and drive to do more."

She hopes to do another Zumbathon next year.

The event also received tremendous support from local businesses around Downton and Salisbury who contributed raffle prizes.
