A MAN was struck from behind near Starbucks on Tuesday after being followed through town.

The unprovoked attack happened at about 12.55pm near Poultry Cross, Silver Street.

The 35-year-old victim was jumped on and as he fell to the floor was punched in the side of the head.

The men are believed to have been know to each other and police say it was not a random attack. The victim did not sustain any serious injury.

Customers sat outside Starbucks helped the victim gather up his possessions that had fallen to the ground.

PC Jeannette Brownsea said: 'It is understood that the victim and suspect knew each other and that this was an isolated incident. Our enquiries are ongoing and I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the assault or who has any information regarding the circumstances of this incident."
