IT'S not often you see an alpaca strutting his stuff in the grounds of the Salisbury Cathedral.

Last week, former village bobby turned full-time alpaca breeder Mark Steele took his stud male Qjori for a stroll round the city.

But they weren't just taking in the sights - they were there for business.

Qjori was the star of a photoshoot in The Close, which Mark hopes will land him a spot on the cover of a catalogue for the Bath and West Show.

He said: "People loved it, everyone was crowding round us and wanting to stroke him.

"He loved it as well. He's a stud male so he's used to being handled."

Mark has been breeding alpacas near Tisbury for a decade.

Two years ago, after stints on the beat in Salisbury, Amesbury, Wilton and Tisbury, he retired as a policeman to concentrate on his herd full-time.

He started with just three, but now has 58.
