A CARERS support and information morning run by a GP surgery in Salisbury is taking place tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 1pm.

The event in the drama block at Bishop Wordsworth's School is the second one this month and is being organised by St Ann Street Medical Practice.

Dr Julian Totman said: "It's a trial that we are running, if successful, we will probably support them on a biannual basis.

"We all know there are lots of unpaid and unrecognised carers for many older and frailer people.

"We are trying to better signpost them to let them know what support is available both in a long-term setting but also, crucially, in an emergency setting to try and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

"While this will save money, it has become much more than that - we want to inform our patients and carers of our patients what services are available."

On hand to talk with people will be doctors, nurses and care coordinators from St Ann Street Medical Practice in addition to representatives from groups such as Action on Addiction, and stands on carers support and dementia awareness.

The first carers' support morning took place last Saturday. Organisers are asking those interested in attending the event to park in Brown Street Car Park or an alternative car park due to a Christmas Fair happening on Saturday and the anticipated limited parking on site.
