HUNDREDS of tiny pairs of neon footprints were painted on pavements across the city over the weekend.

But this is not the latest wave of graffiti to hit the city.

It is a marketing strategy designed to guide Salisbury's Christmas Market visitors to other shopping streets they might not have otherwise discovered.

Kat Salmon from Salisbury BID said: "Hopefully they will spend some money in the rest of the city instead of just at the Christmas Market."

Miss Salmon said the BID had already received "lots of really, really good feedback" from businesses and shoppers.

The trail includes pairs of footprints with signs saying MORE SHOPS THIS WAY every few metres.

They are stencilled using chalk paint which naturally washes away in one to six weeks, depending on the weather.
