SOLDIERS from the Royal Tank Regiment (RTR) in Tidworth put their strength to the test in a bid to set a Guinness World Record.
A team of 60 soldiers from the RTR took up the strain on Wednesday to pull the 62,500kg Challenger 2 tank 100 metres.
They are hoping to set the record for becoming the first regiment to successfully pull the battle tank.
The record attempt comes nearly 100 years on from when the first Mark 1 tank rolled across the battlefield on September 15, 1916 at 3.7 miles per hour during the Battle of the Somme — the first offensive using a tank.
During the record attempt the soldiers matched the speed of that first tank.
Prior to the attempt they started off with a gentle warm with the soldiers pulling an 8070kg Scimitar armoured reconnaissance vehicle 100 metres before the main event.
The regiment will have to wait to find out if their record attempt has been successful.
