THE Wessex Stoma Support Group has celebrated its 10th anniversary.
A patient day and lunch was held at the Wilton Community Centre, which was attended by the Mayors of Wilton and Salisbury, Cllr Phil Matthews and Cllr Andrew Roberts, to mark the milestone.
Group chairman Ken Edwards spoke of the need for support groups before introducing the guest speaks — Michael Floyd, clinical Fellow in urology; Suzi Dukes, specialist stoma nurse from Salisbury District Hospital; and stoma nurse Debbie Stenning for Salts Healthcare.
The support group was also joined by national organisations Mitrofanoff Support and Urology Association, and welcomed members from Solent Ostomates and New Forest Stoma Support. And the medical companies with their stands
Mr Edwards also spoke of the need for national and local organisations to work together to get disabled toilets with ostomy signage, to give ostomates more confidence in using these facilities.
He said the Wessex Stoma Support Group were also working with Stoma Aid, sending unwanted and surplus medical supplies, to those in countries where supplies are expensive or non-existent.
A celebration cake was cut by Michael Beck BEM and Michael Slater, two founder members of Wessex Stoma Group.
