A PEDESTRIAN was knocked down by a car in the city centre this afternoon.

Emergency crews attended the accident in Blue Boar Row after being alerted at 2pm.

The man is understood to be in his 70's and is suffering from a shoulder injury.

The collision happened outside Lloyds bank and involved a silver Volvo.

Private Malcolm Miller, who helped at the scene, said the man was "crushed" under a reversing car, driven by an older man.

He said he rushed to help the injured man, as well as the driver of the car who was in "a terrible shock". He and others directed traffic away from the accident until police and paramedics arrived.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to Salisbury District Hospital.
