TWO dental workers from Amesbury have returned from a volunteering trip in Morocco with charity Dentaid.

Dentist Mark Inman and dental nurse Rachel Forrester from Ivydene Dental Practice were part of an 11 strong team that treated more than 1,000 Moroccan children – many of whom didn’t even own a toothbrush.

The team saw many children who had been living in terrible dental pain but had no access to safe dental care. They carried out hundreds of extractions and fillings and handed out 3,000 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste during the week-long trip.

“The problem is that toothbrushes are considered to be a luxury item and most children don’t own one” said Mark. “But Moroccan food and drink is full of sugar and many children think toothache is something you just have to live with. Everywhere we went we received an incredible welcome – the children will never forget the day the dentists came to school."
