POLICE investigating the alleged rape of a jogger in Bishopdown have closed the case and say "there is no public safety risk" and no arrests have been made.

The alleged serious sexual assault against a woman in her twenties was reported to have happened in an alleyway between Jewell Close, Bishopdown and St Clements Close, Bishopdown Farm on May 24 at 6.30pm.

But police now say "a thorough investigation has been concluded and the matter is closed".

Detective Inspector Ron Peach said: “We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and understanding throughout our investigation into a report of a serious sexual assault in Bishopdown.

"We recognise that this will have been a worrying time for those living in the area. We are now content that there is no public safety risk in relation to this incident.

“Wiltshire Police take all reports of sexual violence very seriously and encourage anyone who is a victim to contact police or the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) on 0808 168 0024."
