SPRINKLES Gelato is planning to open an icecream parlour in Salisbury next to the Odeon cinema.

The dessert company opened its first parlour in Southampton in 2012 and now has stores in Bournemouth, Portsmouth and London.

It hopes to open the Salisbury parlour in New Canal in the building previously used by the bank Santander.

The store is set to recruit up to four employees on a full and part time basis and the proposed hours of opening are:

• Monday-Friday: 10am to 11pm

• Saturday: 10am to 11pm

• Sunday: 11am to 10.30pm

The plans are subject to the site obtaining planning consent for restaurant and cafe use.

A full planning application for the change of use of the ground floor of 13 New Canal from financial and professional services to a restaurant and cafe use has been submitted to Wiltshire Council.

It is due to go before Salisbury City Council planning and transportation meeting this evening (Monday) for comments with Wiltshire Council expected to make a decision next month.

The site is currently vacant with Santander having relocated to Silver Street at the end of 2014. A dentist surgery occupies the first and second floors.

Tim Hance from Prime Retail Property Consultants said: "This is a secondary retailing location within the city and, being adjacent to the cinema is attractive to the A3 restaurant users, with numerous shops in better locations, it is unlikely the demand/supply imbalance will change in the short/medium term."

The application - 16/05838/FUL - has been submitted by PJ Planning on behalf of Kitchcap (Abbey) Ltd.

A consultation runs until August 11, 2016.
