A WINTERSLOW 26-year-old has picked up a haul of medals at the 2016 British Transplant Games.

Lucy Ryan, who had a heart transplant a month before her third birthday, came away with gold in the 3k walk, silver in archery and bronze in the ball throw during the competition.

She said: “Although it’s brilliant to have won one of each medal, it’s genuinely fantastic to just participate as it’s such an amazing atmosphere.

“Now for me it’s actually more about trying to break my own personal bests every year. Even if I don’t get a medal if I’m getting better every year or at least maintaining my current performance that demonstrates how healthy I’m lucky to still be year after year.

“Saying that, winning medals is an added bonus I could get used to.”

The competition took place in Liverpool at the end of July.

Lucy has set up an online petition calling for the organ donation system to be reformed across the UK and follow Wales in introducing a opt-out system.
