A PREGNANT mother who bit one police officer and kicked another has been spared jail.

Lacey George, of Lynch Close in Mere, pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of failure to surrender at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Thursday (January 12) and appeared in front of magistrates again on Friday (January 13) for sentencing.

Prosecuting, Kate Prince, said the 22-year-old had been on a night out on November 26 last year when police were called to reports of an "altercation between a male and a female" at Illuminate bar in Salisbury.

Officers found George and her former partner, who was bleeding, in Brown Street.

They arrested George, but Ms Prince said this lead the defendant to become "immediately abusive" towards the police officers.

During the struggle, and while George was lying on the floor, she kicked PC Brewster and shouted: "Get off me you c**t".

George also bit PC Bellis on his thumb and broke the skin, despite the officer wearing thick leather gloves.

Defending, Nick Redhead, said George was a mother of two, who was expecting her third baby in May.

He said she "doesn't go out very much and had drunk some alcohol" when she spotted her ex-partner in Illuminate and went to talk to him, resulting in an argument.

A probation worker told the court that George had admitted throwing a glass at her ex-partner, which caused the cut on his head.

She said George "had just lost her accommodation, and had suspicions she was pregnant" before going out that evening, but added that George had been drinking spirits and described herself as a "two out of ten" in terms of drunkenness.

George also admitted failing to turn up to court on the original date set for her hearing (January 6), with Mr Redhead saying she had confused the dates and that she surrendered herself to the police station as soon as she realised.

Bench chairman Nigel Livesey said: "The matters we have heard about are so serious we feel the custody threshold has been passed. We are therefore sending you to prison because of your previous record and the assault on public servants going about their line of duty."

But Mr Livesey said they would suspend the seven-week jail term for 12 months, on the basis that George completed 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

She must also pay £100 and £50 compensation to PC Bellis and PC Brewster respectively.

Mr Livesey said: "You were very close here. Work with probation and get through this."
