SALISBURY and South Wilts Scouts held its very first kart race using the perimeter road of Old Sarum Airfield as the track.

Groups from around South Wiltshire made and painted their go-karts in readiness for the race which took place on March 18.

Event organiser Jon Burton said: “There were around eight troops and 100 scouts. It was great fun – some worked a lot better than others.

“The fastest time was 42 seconds and the slowest 20 minutes.

“We used to run it at Hudson’s Field but haven’t had one for about ten years.

“We’ll definitely plan one for next year, it’s the sort of thing scouts love – it’s practical, fun and everyone gets to have a go.”
