PUPILS at St Andrew's Primary School in Laverstock have been mastering their operatic skills as part of a project with a Bath Spa University student.
The school were approached by a local music student studying at the university who was looking for a group of young children to teach opera to as part of his dissertation project. And the school was happy to help.
Since February, the Year 5 pupils have taken part in weekly workshop sessions where they have learned about composers, operatic history, singing techniques and voice parts.
Some of the songs the children learned included O Mio Babbino Caro, Nessun Dorma, The Soldier’s Chorus and The Toreador Song.
On Thursday, June 15, they travelled to Bath Spa University for a day of rehearsing with an orchestra and adult voice parts, and then performed to the University and their parents in the evening.
A spokesman of the school said: "The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience and we're grateful to be offered such a wonderful opportunity. It was certainly a day to be remembered by all."
