A SHAFTESBURY man in remission from Leukaemia has completed a hair-raising chaillenge to raise money for charity.

Jon Smallwood completed a wing walk today (August 19) in support of Leaf Charity, which supports sufferers of blood cancer.

Jon, who has been in remission since 2009, was strapped to the top wing of a biplane, above the propellor, and flew at 145 miles per hour.

"People might think wing walking is a terrifying experience – but  it's nothing compared to the fear people and their families can experience when cancer is diagnosed," Jon said.

"If I can do this small thing to raise money to help, then it's worth a bit of trepidation."

He told the Journal the walk was "very scary, bumpy, loud and absolutely fantastic".

Jon's daughter, Rachel, said: "It's fundraising for research like [Leaf Charity carries out] and training nurses and providing equipment that meand I had a dad to walk me down the aisle and be a grandad to my kids.

"It's also a great charity for supporing the families of those who are ill.

"I am very proud."

Jon has raised just over £1,000 so far and you can donate here.
