TWO people with life-threatening injuries have been rushed to hospital following a collision on the A343 this afternoon.

South Central Ambulance Service confirmed it received reports of the collision at around 2pm.

Two rapid response cars, an air ambulance rapid response car, a paramedic team leader, two ambulances and the air ambulance were sent to the scene.

An ambulance spokesperson said two patients involved in the incident have sustained life-threatening injuries and are being transported to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton.

One is being flown by air ambulance and the other has been taken by ambulance.

As previously reported, police confirmed they were called to reports of a collision on the A343, Abbotts Ann.

Three vehicles were involved, including Peugeot 207, a BMW and a Ford Transit Van. 

A police spokesperson added the incident is ongoing and officers are at the scene.

The A343 Salisbury Road is closed in both directions between Duck Street/Fullerton Road and the B3084/Old Stockbridge Road.
