A PROTEST against the 850 proposed homes in Harnham and on Netherhampton Road will take place tomorrow morning.

Residents from Harnham and Netherhampton will be holding a drive-by between 7.30am and 9am to highlight traffic concerns over Wiltshire Council's proposed housing allocation plan.

About 25 vehicles will take part, driving on a loop between Wilton roundabout, along Netherhampton Road, to Harnham roundabout and back.

Chairman of Netherhampton Parish Council, Paul Cunningham, says data has shown that the additional cars on the road will only represent ten per cent of the expected journeys generated by the plans.

Data from TRICS, used by planners to calculate traffic data from new developments, shows that the proposal will generate around 500 journeys along Netherhampton Road every day between 8am and 8am, and 5pm and 6pm.

If each car taking part tomorrow completes the loop once, it will represent two journeys past the proposed site.

Cllr Cunningham said: "We regret any delays that this will cause but we are trying to raise awareness of Wiltshire Council’s draft housing allocations plan, which includes 850 or even more houses along Netherhampton Road.

"These developments are being proposed without any thought for the impact on the traffic infrastructure of Salisbury.

"We want them at least deferred until there has been formal consultation and adoption of a new and effective transport strategy for Salisbury."
