THE campaign has been kick-started by two donors each giving £250,000.

One donor chose to remain anonymous, and the other was the Salisbury Independent Hospital Trust.

The Trust chairman, surgeon John Carvell, said a second scanner would “greatly enhance the quality of the service” and reduce waiting times for scans and treatment.

Mr Carvell said working as an orthopaedic surgeon helped him appreciate the “huge benefit” that MRI scanners brought to patients with “complex and often painful conditions” and that the Trust “fully endorse” the campaign.
