Stonehenge 'most loved landmark'

STONEHENGE has beaten the competition and been named as the nation’s most-loved landmark in a recent survey.
The Seven Wonders of Britain survey carried out by holiday firm cottages4u named Stonehenge as the most popular landmark at the top of any sightseeing list.
According to the survey of 1,000 holidaymakers, country landmarks beat city sights nine times out of 10, perhaps indicating the nation is shunning modern man-made attractions for natural and historic sites.
Stonehenge was number one, with Hadrian’s Wall at number two, the White Cliffs of Dover at three, Loch Ness at four, Snowdonia at five, Edinburgh Castle at six and Cheddar Gorge at number seven.
Geoff Cowley, managing director of cottages4you, said: “This survey highlights the value British people place on our natural and historic landmarks.
“There are so many fantastic places to visit in the UK from mountains and beaches to historic monuments and stately homes, I’m sure those taking their first UK holiday for a few years will be spoilt for choice.”
