RESIDENTS of Buckland Court care home will be able to enjoy the summer days outside and get involved in the gardening thanks to a free makeover of their garden.
Green-fingered volunteers landscaped the garden using recycled materials from the demolition of buildings at Ward Barracks in Bulford and built a new shed, patio, bird boxes and baths and a vegetable garden.
The work was carried out by workers from Aspire Defence, Raymond Brown, Dean & Dyball, Gavin Jones and ISG Pearce in celebration of Green Britain Day, a national initiative encouraging people to cut their carbon footprint by 2012.
The new vegetable patch reduces emissions and provides residents with gardening activities and a source of fresh vegetables to eat.
Tania Arnold, the manager at the home, said everyone was delighted with the new garden.
“We think it’s fabulous,” she said. “They have put in a couple of raised flowerbeds with wheelchair access round it so all our residents can get involved in the gardening now.”
Andy Jones, managing director at Aspire Defence Capital Works, said: “We’re delighted to help the residents of Buckland Court care home by giving their gardens a green makeover.
“As well as the vegetable patch, we’ve installed big planters that are easy to tend to and we hope that these new gardening activities and, quite simply, having a nicer garden in which to relax, will be a source of great pleasure for the home.”
