Good turnout at Alverwake flower show

MORE than 200 people flocked to Ebbesbourne Wake village hall on Saturday afternoon for the Alverwake flower show.

The turnout was better than previous years according to Alison Meers, a committee member for the annual show.

“It went very well indeed,” she said. “There was far more garden produce than expected and we were all very pleased with it.”

About 80 people entered the show, which has been running since the end of the Second World War, and six people were awarded cups for their entries.

John Cahill won the vegetable cup and best collection of vegetables cup, Grace Witcomb was awarded the domestic cup, the photograph cup went to Russell Emm, the handicraft cup to Kate Phillips and Sheila Sykes scooped the flower and the best flower exhibit cups.

Nine children took part, with the junior shield for the under eights going to Thomas Bristow and the junior shield for children aged eight to 14 going to Katy Clarke.
