MORE than 500 children of all ages had a free fun-filled day in Winterslow as part of the national playday celebrations earlier this month.
About 30 young people took part in power kiting, run by Wiltshire and Swindon Activity and Sports Partnership (WASP), during the morning.
And hundreds more came to the recreation ground in the afternoon to take part in activities including a bouncy castle, crafts, cake decorating, a build your own assault course and junk modelling. The day was organised by local parents, and funded by Winterslow and Firsdown parish councils and Winterslow WASP’s out of school club, with donations from many local and national organisations, including the Wiltshire Scrapstore and Resource Centre, ASDA, B&Q, Wiltshire Police and the Play Rangers.
Organiser Carolyn Port said: “We were thrilled to see so many children and young people enjoying themselves and involved in free play activities. Play is really important for children of all ages and we hope we have shown how to create exciting activities with a few cheap resources.”
