NINE splendid scarecrows moved into a Salisbury garden centre as part of a weekend-long harvest festival celebration.

They were made by children from Harnham Infant School for a competition, and Country Gardens manager Stuart Blight had the tricky task of choosing the best.

The centre, in Netherhampton Road, was a hive of activity, with stalls full of goodies from the Britford Farm Shop and Wilton W.I.

Salisbury Riding for the Disabled manned a charity coffee shop, and Wiltshire College Lackham gave a floristry display.

C & O Tractors displayed garden machinery and a tractor. An inflatable slide proved popular with children, as did barn owls and a stoat brought along from Wiltshire Wildlife Rescue’s Windmill Farm centre.

“The weekend was a great success,” said Mr Blight, “and with luck we’ll do it again.”
