Award for flower festival designer

THE chief designer of the Salisbury 750 Flower Festival in the Cathedral in 2008 and president of Salisbury Floral Arrangement Society has been honoured by the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS).

Michael Bowyer has been made a Special Associate of Honour, one of only ten people in the country to be recognised in this way. Mr Bowyer is very well known in the world of flower arranging as a national demonstrator, judge and speaker and is also a tutor for the three-year course for the NAFAS Diploma in Floral Art and Design.

He has travelled all over the world to demonstrate and teach, as well as to compete in shows.

He has also been involved with many fundraising events for charities, including three shows he masterminded in the City Hall with The Magnificent Seven, a group of fellow National and Area Demonstrators, which raised more than £20,000 for the Jo Benson Day Centre.

At the Chelsea Flower Show this year he was one of the team from the Wessex and Jersey Area representing NAFAS, which won a gold medal.

The award recognises his dedicated contribution to the work of NAFAS.
