Caring 4 Kids campaign reached £1million target

THE people of Salisbury have done it again!

Their fundraising efforts have raised an incredible £1million for the Caring 4 Kids Campaign, which will improve the lives of thousands of young patients at Salisbury District Hospital.

The campaign has been so successful that the Stars Appeal, which runs it, is moving on to the next phase of fundraising, which will revolutionise neonatal intensive care and provide dedicated areas for children in the accident and emergency department.

But that will take another £500,000, and plans are already underway to repeat some of the incredible fundraising events which have seen thousands of people coming together to support their local hospital.

From parachuting teddies to sponsored walks, muddy runs over Salisbury Plain to the sophistication of Rockbourne Fair, the cash has been coming in at a number of high-profile events throughout the year.

This is in addition to the hundreds of sales, sponsored challenges and collections which have boosted the appeal.

Caring 4 Kids was launched in March 2008 and was well on its way to its total when a generous Salisbury couple, who wish to remain anonymous, donated a six-figure sum, pushing the appeal well over its target.

This means £1million can be spent on providing extra facilities for the £4million children’s unit including a “home from home room” for youngsters who need a long stay in hospital, indoor and outdoor play areas, parents’ accommodation and a number of other home comforts.

The NHS is funding the main part of the project but it has been up to the Stars Appeal and the people of Salisbury to provide the extras, which will benefit more than 6,000 children every year.
