Taste of working life for youngsters

YOUNG people are getting a taste of working life at a new lunchtime food venture.

The Monday Lunch Project is taking over the Endless Life Café in Salisbury for two hours every week. And its menu of sandwiches, paninis, soup and cakes is going down a treat with customers.

The initiative, funded by Wiltshire Council youth development services and the Salisbury Area Board, is offering four youngsters with a range of special needs or learning difficulties help in transferring from school or college to the working environment.

They had to bid for the money, and café supervisor Anna Tooth said: “They are waiting tables, taking orders, doing food preparation, cleaning and washing up.”

She said the project offered high standards and “amazingly competitive prices”.

Monday Lunch will also be selling Christmas cards, designed by a special needs youth group.
