AN award-winning fundraiser from Laverstock is trying something a little less active for his latest fundraising event.

David Wood, a former Bishop Wordsworth’s School pupil, has run several marathons and travelled round the world last October with the Jailbreak challenge, which won him and friend Simon Painter the ‘most innovative fundraiser’ award at the JustGiving awards earlier this year.

But on March 31 the 28-year-old will be taking it easy with an online coffee break for the Meningitis Trust.

Mr Wood said: “Online services like JustGiving and social networking sites like Twitter have helped me raise thousands of pounds for charity. This year I’m taking a bit of a break from marathon running, but I am always keen to help charities.”

He said the online coffee break is simple, all people have to do is visit www.justgiving.com/cb4mt and place an order for a minimum donation of £2. On the day he will email or ‘tweet’ people their virtual coffees. “The best thing is – everything’s entirely fat free, and there are no calories,” he added.

Mr Wood works as a community fundraiser for the Meningitis Trust and has raised more than £35,000 for charity since 2006. Coffee Break, which is now in its 16th year, is one of the Meningitis Trust’s most popular annual events and has raised more than £1.2million.
