THIS year’s auction on behalf of Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal raised a record-breaking £18,000.
The total smashed last year’s record amount of £12,000, with the highest bid being made for a ride in a Bugatti Veyron, which went for an amazing £1,510.
Stars Appeal director Dave Cates said: “We totally smashed last year’s record, which was itself a record, and our thanks go to everyone involved, especially our volunteer Jo Maslen, who organised the whole thing.
“It was wonderful to see the number of people who have first hand experience of the children’s unit who were bidding. Their involvement will help so many local families.”
The auction, which is supported by the Journal and Spire FM and was broadcast live by Spire yesterday, is the first major fundraising event of the year towards the Stars Appeal’s new campaign.
The campaign aims to raise£500,000 to provide family accommodation for the special care baby unit and for a dedicated children’s area in the accident and emergency department.
