HUNDREDS of cups of coffee were drunk, and cakes chomped to raise funds for Macmillan last Friday.

In Salisbury, pupils and staff from Godolphin School showed just what they are made of, selling delicious home-made cakes and biscuits and raising more than £300 for the cancer charity.

Hairdressers Toni and Guy held a coffee and cake morning for clients and passers-by, sold keyrings and raffled off a free haircut and hamper.

Starbucks donated the coffee, paper cups with lids, sugar sachets and wooden stirrers, Polly’s Tearooms donated biscuits and Greggs gave doughnuts. Reeves donated pastries, Lakeland gave the salon a huge hamper to raffle, the Party Shop gave green helium-filled balloons and Presto gave more pastries.

Forever England gave Union Jack bunting, the White Hart Hotel two cake stands and Prestige Cars drove around all the taxi ranks to sell the salon’s cakes and raffle tickets.

In addition, salon owner Phil Smith matched the fundraising total and £1,067.41 was raised.

At the Westover dealership, staff raised £800 by contributing £5 for every customer satisfaction questionnaire that’s been returned since the summer, and £5 for every test drive taken at all its 18 showrooms that day.

Spokesman Sue Wharmby said: “Everyone has come into contact with cancer in some form, so everyone is eager to contribute. We’re grateful for our customers’ generous support, and we’re hoping to raise more money than we did last year.”
