SOLDIER Paul Blair has turned inventor in a bid to look out for man’s best friend.

When his Jack Russell Razzle cut his mouth on a stick he was fetching, Sgt Blair decided there should be something more muzzle-friendly available for him to throw for his pet.

Sgt Blair, 39, who is with the Parachute Regiment at Netheravon, and his wife, Helen, 29, set out to create a range of safer alternatives for pets and came up with Safestix.

The flexible rubber stick has won the approval of the Royal Veterinary College and The Dogs Trust charity.

Professor Dan Brockman form the Royal Veterinary College said: ‘This product would seem like the perfect alternative to a piece of wood.

“It has been carefully designed with no rough ends or edges and is made of mate rial that is tough enough to withstand even my terrier’s teeth.”

Two thousand are due to go on sale this week in pet stores across the UK including Amesbury Pet Stores, Pets Corner and Kennel Gate.
