CHILDREN at Mere Primary School have enjoyed a water themed week of music, fun and activities.
During the town’s annual Literary Festival, poet Valerie Bridge visited the school and worked with the children to produce poems about water.
There was also a visit from Wessex Water, to discuss the weather cycle, where our water comes from and what happens to it.
The children then enjoyed a packed week of activity focused on water including a visit from internationally renowned percussionist Lekan Babalola and American a cappella choir Northern Harmony.
Mr Babalola worked with every class, drumming and developing rhythmic skills before devising a performance around a traditional African story on water, culminating in a performance for parents in which each child sang, played an instrument or read out their poem.
Headteacher Catriona Williamson said: “We are very proud of the high standard of music education our pupils receive at Mere.
“They can learn a wide variety of instruments at the school and our music week was a great opportunity to showcase the children’s talent and creativity.”
